Last Sunday was our annual Aged Luncheon and it was a wonderful event once again. We had 50 guests plus our team of helpers – thank you to Gail all our members who assisted with organisation of the lunch, transport, serving food and drinks, helping the guests etc. Special thanks to Sarah Fretwell and Emma Watts from Loreto Normanhurst who attended as part of their school’s community service certificate, and to Lynne, flautist Naomi Dodd and Voices from the Waters choir who provided musical entertainment.
One very articulate ‘young lady’ asked if I knew Vince Duffy – I replied that I did and had seen him just a few weeks ago. As she remembers it, this ‘89 years young’ lady went to the movies with Vince when she was 14 years old – his mother paid for the tickets and her mother paid for the ice creams. Gay Flood, who later became a nun, now resides at McQuoin Park at Waitara, and wished to pass her regards to Vince. All in all it was a great afternoon, despite the inclement weather, and a very worthwhile community service project for our club.
Our guest speaker at Monday’s meeting was PDG John Cameron who spoke about grants from the Foundation. We will pursue this further with our international and local projects. Also in attendance was Leo Leonardi, president of Thornleigh Rotary, who is very positive about the formation of the new club. Also present was a guest of Sivaraj, Sadia, who is interested in Rotary.
On Election Day, Saturday 2nd, we would like as many hands as possible to help on the BBQ and bookstall. Please let me know if you have books available to sell. In the evening we have our changeover in the Shamrock Inn at Magpies, Waitara.
From 11th July, Waitara club will be joining our meetings. On this night we will have Waitara’s youth exchange student and our own RYPEN awardee present. On Monday 18th, DG Bruce Lakin will address our combined clubs on how the amalgamation of northern beaches clubs took place.
Don’t forget the Trivia Night for Hornsby Hospital on Friday 22nd July – contact Gail for details.
Yours in Rotary
